Senior prompt: to create 50 pendants inspired by Richard Serra's 50 verbs, written in 1967. The handwritten list is now part of the Museum of Modern Art’s collection. Samantha Friedman, Assistant Curator, Department of Drawings and Prints wrote the following:
"In pencil on two sheets of paper, the artist lists the infinitives of 84 verbs—to roll, to crease, to fold, to store, etc.—and 24 possible contexts—of gravity, of entropy, of nature, etc.—in four columns of script. Serra described the list as a series of “actions to relate to oneself, material, place, and process,” and employed it as a kind of guide for his subsequent practice in multiple mediums." MoMA

I was inspired by a personal visit to the Vermont Main Street Museum, a collection of curious artifacts organized in cabinets that bring up stories and fictitious histories to be made. Through this, and with my love for found objects, I have chosen 'to erase' the histories of objects that only I know the history of. If more than one found object is combined, a tally of knots in the string was kept so that the lightest touch would feel it.
Display below: The 50 pendants, to exist as objects first on plexi panels, before assessed on the body and as pendants. Classmates were encouraged to pick them up and inspect the numbered tally on the string.
My work was then chosen to be displayed among another senior, and two graduate students for our department display case.
