Original hand illustration of the Canal house depicted in Jessie Burton's The Miniaturist. I later cut out the panes of the windows and inserted the famous Vermeer painting - also featured at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam - The Milkmaid. Her clear disproportionately large size compared to the proportions of the canal house is meant to convey both the feeling of being trapped in a guilded cage - a sentiment that runs throughout much of the novel - as well as a play on the title of the book itself.
