Problem Statement:
• A nuclear reactor has developed a leak. There are 3000 families that live in the vicinity that will be
affected by radiation in the next 24 hours. There is a clear indication that evacuation is imperative while
the leak is being contained.
• In other instances of such evacuations, the efforts have either been ‘free for all’ which created havoc,
stampedes, traffic jams and general chaos or ‘over structured’ which lead to an orderly but slow
evacuation. In either case, most people were impacted by radiation by the time they left the area.
• This time around, we want to ensure the least number of people are impacted.
• There are 6 team leaders responsible to evacuate 500 families each. Each leader needs to be able to
track the evacuation progress, status of the radiation and instruct his team accordingly.
• The leader will need to move about the area he is responsible for and needs a handheld device to help
him be efficient while on the move.
