Kando Together : Graphic Design Award By Yamaha 2015

The Japanese word KANDO(感動)means “for the heart” or “to be deeply moved”
KANDO (感動) is an important Japanese philosophy that Yamaha Music and Yamaha Motor Co. have always embraced.

Over 1000 artworks from 69 countries worldwide have been submitted to graphic design award by Yamaha, and my piece made it into the top 15 for final review - http://www.graphic-day.com/
Kando Together - Concept:
My representation of Kando is a design involving the palm of the hand and the meaning behind the heart and lifeline. Around them are eighteen glyphs all representing different emotions, actions and disciplines such as connect, create, harmony, energy, delight, progress, learn, best, express, friends, path, love, transfuse and power which all are combined to create Kando. The hand design also relates to how Yamaha’s products are extremely tactile and seen as tools to help reach ‘Kando.’

When we express ourselves through music, it creates an inner happiness, helps us connect with friends and creates a positive energy. It’s why people strive to achieve more, so when you have a bad day, perhaps play the wrong note, you always return and continue because you love what you do. In the center of the palm I’ve created a circle for the viewer to interact with the design and allow them to insert their own feeling of Kando. This encourages individual users to connect with Yamaha and create ‘Kando together’.

The other glyphs on the palm such as content, creative and technology are related to Yamaha as a company and the services they provide which also contribute to creating the ultimate Kando.

Kando Together - Process:
Kando Together was relief printed on Japanese paper, an almost transparent thin sheet of paper and after photographing taken into photoshop to be cleaned up a little.

As a part of the studio practice module for my BA course, we are entering a number of graphic competions, this being first and we went a little futher with how the icon would be used in marketing.
GDAY JUDGING - brody_associates
How the picogram could be used in marketing as an app, where users could share what their 'Kando' is.
