Ayasofya / Hagia Sophia

Ayasofya, or Hagia Sophia as it is known in Greek, is a beautiful structure, one of the many symbols of Istanbul and Constantinople. This building, the third basilica to stand on this spot, was rededicated in 562 A.D. From 1453 until 1931 it served as a mosque. Today it is a museum.
