Don’t let the name fool you. This instrument does not have anything to do with bums. It is a super sensitive MIDI controller that acts like a HANG Drum as well as many other things.
Bumdrum is a MIDI controller that I’ve designed especially for the Red Bull Music Academy in London 2010. I knew I had to come up with something special, and had the idea to build a MIDI version of Hang Drum, so decided to build a MIDI HANG! After being lucky enough to watch Talvin Singh play tabla, he decided that I wanted an instrument that could be as sensitive as a tabla can be while being played with small finger tappings.
The design of the instrument is highly inspired by the Hang Drum and Aqua Drum, the difference being the number of places to make sound is modular as well as the timbre of the sounds produced is infinite. Not only one can control virtual instruments with the Bumdrum, but also can manipulate samples, effects, arrangements and so forth.
