Halasuru Someshwara Temple, located in the suburb of Ulsoor in Bangalore city is a dedicated to the deity Someshwara ,the Hindu god Shiva. It is the oldest temple in the city and dates back to the Chola period.
The open mantapa consists of forty eight pillars with carvings of divinities in frieze. Each pillar has three unique carvings on each face and a total of 12 unique carvings on each pillar.
The aim of this project is to design an interface that would help a researcher in exploring the carvings and find common connections and narrative structures in the carvings.
The interface allows the user to select a pillar for study either in an orthographic top view or a perspective 3d view.
We can also toggle between the pillar view and the relief view of the engravings for more details.
By clicking on one of the engravings in the relief view, further information about the specific engraving can be viewed. The pillar selection panel would also display the position and direction of the selected engraving and all the other repetitions of the selected engraving as well, thus giving the researcher an overall picture of the placement of the engraving in the temple structure.
The 3d pillar panel also shows the repetitions, positions and the direction of the selected engraving in a 3d perspective.
