Production Process- Certificates for NID

On December 9, 2014, the National Institute of Design, India awarded, for the first time ever, the degrees of Bachelor and Master of Design. The new Degree Certificates have been designed to honour this pride in every NIDian's heart- We are proud to be Indians. We are proud to be Indian Designers.

The Indigo and Madder themed certificates speak of an unbroken legacy of one the earliest and oldest surviving civilisations of the world. The bold placement of Devnagri along with English emphasises on the contemporary Indian identity that is going global while holding on to its strong roots. To celebrate the diversity of cultures in our nation and the multi disciplinary nature of NID education, the name of the Institute appears in the background, hand-written in scripts of all the 15 scheduled languages of India( as appearing in the Indian Currency Note).

The certificates have exploited the in-house strengths of the Institute widely in the production process, consciously reiterating the fact that what draws the world's attention to NID, is its hands-on tradition of Learning by Doing and Growing by Learning.

The size of the certificate is based on a unique Indian proportion standard 'The Sawai Proportion' i.e 1:1.25. The increment of Sawa (25%) is considered very auspicious in Indian tradition. This can be noticed in the offerings at the temples, sawa mani, sawa rupiya. Moreover, this paper size is different from the Western Paper standards that are commonly followed elsewhere.

With this design, we hope to translate the ethos of the institute into the final parting gift to the graduating students, something they can cherish for a lifetime.
