Ergonomics in life - shopping cart design in ergonomics
A shopping cart for customers to transport their purchased products inside a shop, especially inside the supermarket. It will create so much problem for customers to go shopping without a shopping trolley that allows us to hold more than we can physically carry.
Many of the size of the shopping cart is large and bulky that people face difficulties when using it. There are reports that people are being crushed by trolleys in supermarket. Even though there are smaller versions of the large shopping cart, usability of the trolley may slightly decreased. People who need to carry young children to shop may not be able to use the scale down version of the trolley.
In our research, we will focus on the ergonomic factors of a shopping cart. Body measurement of asian will be used as the new shopping cart is designed for Hong Kong’s supermarket and shops.
However, factors like the materials used in a trolley and the ease of use are also important to a good trolley design in supermarket.
Researchers consider these factors when designing the cart.

When people need to use the baby seat, they can simply place the basket in a horizontal way. If they do not have the need to use the baby seat, they can place the basket in a vertical way just like any kind of tradtional scale down trolley. With this design feature, the centre of gravity will not be altered even we add a baby seat.
It can either be put horizintally or veritcally. There are only two locks for preventing the basket from falling and it helps the user to transfer the whole basket of products to the cashier more conveniently and easily.
The space for putting the baby’s legs through is changed to be larger and lifted. Users can put inside the child or take out the child more easier. We lengthen the the middle part so as to prevent the baby from falling down.
The bar of the trolley is wrapped with a soft plastic for easier griping. The wheels are also made of plastic to reduce the fraction while moving. The bar is slightly curved for easier turning.
