Company Vessels

The collection of vessels were created in collaboration between Nellie Peoples and Sam Tomkins, for Fusion: the art of eating, as a part of DESIGN Canberra 2014 held the Museum of Democracy, an initiative by Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre. Held on 19 November 2014.

Fusion: the art of eating is a result of pairing contemporary craft and design practitioners with innovative Canberran restaurants, for Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre fundraising event for 2014. The goal of the event was to serve the finest local produce on quality designed and created objects.

The brief for Company was for palm-sized vessels suitable for an entrée. The vessels were developed from the notion held by both Nellie Peoples and Sam Tomkins that object play an important role in bringing people together, whether is be as inmate as a piece of jewellery or the sharing of a meal.

The vessel was an exploration of possibilities of a new food utensil. A ritual based product that questioned and investigated what happens beyond the food at these gatherings. The vessel’s design evolved from the desire for beholders of the object to have the ability to greet each other whilst holding the vessel. When not held the vessels are designed to tessellate, to come together like those who surround it.
