Nickelodeon TV Channel Identity

The Brief: Nickelodeon wanted to create a series of five Channel Identities for the year 2015.

Year: 2014
Producer: Troy Vasanth
Pre-Production: Troy Vasanth, Hanoch John Samuel, Nausheen Javed
Animation: Hanoch John Samuel, Nausheen Javed
Post- Production: Troy Vasanth

The Challenge: Nickelodeon wanted to include all the popular characters and shows of 2014 in these Channel Idents. They wanted the Ident to appeal to the Indian lower to higher middle classes especially.

The Approach: We decided to depict a game of 'Gully-cricket'. Gully cricket, which means Street Cricket is a game which truly binds the children and adults living in the same neighbourhood. Just like the game, the people too are confined in tiny, congested streets and hence need to mold the rules of the game to not to break the windows of the houses in the street. Although it happens any which way.

Process: After the concept building and storyboarding, a rough line animation was produced inside of Adobe Flash/ Animate, which was then refined
Character Design: We created several characters from the Indian streets, who would populate the backgrounds as well as the main characters.
Storyboard: We created the scenario of a few kids playing a match of cricket in the neighbourhood street, where they have all kinds of people playing along, including the famous Indian mythological villain- the Ravana. While all others in the same congested street are carrying on with their lives, while they take a few glimpses of the match events. The ball goes flying in the sky and back to interacting with everything and everyone in the same street.
Character Design: The characters came from the sketchbooks
Final frames were composited in After Effects.
