Carthusian Monastery

The Task of this thesis is a Carthusian monastery in Lammertal, Tennengau, a region in southern Salzburg. In today's globally connected society,  the topic of monastic architecture seems less relevant than in the past, yet a counter-movement against this technical and fast-paced society is unfolding and taking shape. There is a demand to get out of the hyper connected and fast-paced lifestyle that we all are part of and surrounded by. Due to this demand, the task of a monastery seems relevant as a place of silence in which one can find oneself again, especially since this issue will gain importance in the near future.  The architecture of the eremite monastery and its interpretation of life serves as a  counter-model to the 21st century ultra connected lifestyle and rapidly moving society.

The design interpretes the Chartusian monastery new but with a focus on the Rules and the Lifestyle of the Order, as a result of this, the building is situated noticeable but still reduced in the valley. From one side it is massive and powerful, which shows the divine big picture, by moving further into the valley it takes itself back more and more and opens up to the person outside, and shows the inner structure of the monastery and the order.
