New York Times - Modern Love
We were commissioned by the New York Times to contribute to their ongoing Modern Love series. Based on an article by Amy Butcher, the film revolves around Amy's fleeting romance with a handsome man she met at a campsite.
From the outset our goal was to tell the story without showing people. We strongly believe in the ability of animation to connect with the viewer in a more abstract way, and really wanted to push this ideal. The characters are represented through colour, shape, movement, and some nasty weather. We had a lot of fun creating this.
To keep it feeling human, we decided to rotoscope the entire animation. All 2000 frames of it.
