Layers and Voids: Design for a selected space

The idea was to enhance a space or make it more usable by giving textile-based solutions in a selected space. I decided to work on and around the red metal columns present in the NID campus, Gandhinagar and make the area more inviting.
I was greatly inspired by M.C. Escher's work as well as images and colours that created a contrast yet seemed harmonious to the eye.
The idea was to put up an installation that would make the space inviting and pique the interest of whoever visited the area.
Explorations
Paper, varieties of felt, paper yarn
Inspired by geometry and Escher, the final piece works along the lines of the campus building. Angular yet built on layers, the ever changing grid formations create a medley of concrete and light, of layers and voids.
The final unit and details.
This was made by stitching two different coloured felt sheets, each of 32 sq.cm together and cutting, folding and stitching it to make one unit. Such units were then stitched together to form the whole piece.
