Starting from a small SharePoint list tracking correspondence and a mission to keep it simple, I designed and developed a custom document management and approval routing solution for the Transportation Security Administration.  This custom SharePoint solution has seen rapid adoption across the entire organization, and has been embraced as the preferred method to replace manual routing.  Over 100,000 folders later, TSA has eliminated all lost correspondence and vastly improved accountability in producing official, digitally signed records.
 
DocTracker is a SharePoint feature leveraging .NET development.  It consists of custom application pages, web parts and event receivers that provide dynamic routing and escalation, approval delegation, improved security and a personalized dashboard.  This approach was used to utilize the best features of SharePoint and package them in a way for maximum re-use and customization options across the enterprise.  By leveraging the two platforms, an existing business process was significantly improved through technology and the barriers of user adoption were broken by creating a simple, familiar user experience.
