Permutate

A typeface inspired by the French ‘New Wave’ film director Jean-Luc Godard. Permutate is based around his most esteemed quote, “A story should have a beginning, a middle, and an end, but not necessarily in that order.” The changed narrative of the letters represents the order in which Godard produced his films; the end, middle, and beginning. This is how the typeface reads for each individual letter. The letters are split into three segments, with the starting point, being the ending of the letter, in relation to the order of how it’s written.
The above shows the typeface Permutate, as well as a typeface which is created when you put back together the 'Permutate' typeface.
Promotional poster for the typeface.
Cards which I created for my promotional book, which was infact a box, as I wanted to create a book without binding it so that there was freedom in the order of the pages/cards just like my typeface.
This is an example of how my typeface reads and the idea of changing the order, splitting into three parts; the beginning, the middle, and the end.
