The Artifacts of Memories
For my thesis, I conducted research on our memory, and how our ability to recall past experiences shapes our identities. As memories change, evolve, and fade, we seek to find ways to preserve them. I became interested in the potential of objects to evoke memories and become meaningful artifacts to us.

‘Artifact’ explores the ability of sound to transport us to our past, creating new habits of remembering.  As I was designing, I wanted the experience of interacting with the object to be as ethereal and evocative as the memories that it contains. The object is comprised of two parts: the soundshape which houses and stores the sounds, and the recording tile, which is easily removed to record anything of interest. When the tile is placed back onto the soundshape, the files are transferred. Physically interacting with the soundshape by rolling it around or picking it up triggers different sounds to emit at random.
