Perforated Metal Design

I really enjoyed this week’s lesson and was rather happy with my final outcome. I wanted something that was heavy duty looking and would look like you would find it in a metal shop hanging on the wall. I used the same patterns from the tutorial from this week’s lesson but changed some of their effects. Over all I was really happy with my final design and learned a couple new tricks from this weeks lesson.

Below are the following steps I took to get my final design:

-       Created a new documents with the following specs: 10in by 10 in and 150 ppi

-       Copied over the layers from the tutorial to the new document.

-       Used the “Custom Shape Tool” and create a nice size ornamental shape with the following effects: Drop Shadow, Outer Glow, Pattern Overlay, Inner Glow, Contour and Bevel & Emboss. I spent some time with getting the settings just right so that I would look realistic.

-       I then sized the preexisting background to the same size as the ornamental shape. I kept the same effect on the background layers but I did change the color overlay and added Inner and Outer glow.

-       I used the scratched metal pattern from the tutorial as my new background so that my design would look unified.

-       I added in four screw tops so that it would look like the ornamental shape and its background were one whole piece. I added different effects to the Top and Bottom lefts screws because I wanted them to appear darker then the right screws.

-       Lastly I added “Custom” above the ornamental shape and “Designs” below it. I used the exact same effects as from the tutorial on my words but did change the Contour to “Down” on Designs and added in an inner shadow to both words.
