My Entry in Paul McCartney's Design Competition
Since Paul has rereleased his solo MCCARTNEY & MCCARTNEY II albums, he is holding a competition to find artwork inspired by either “Coming Up” or “Maybe I’m Amazed”, and as “Maybe” is one of my favorite songs of all time, obviously that’s the one that spoke to me. I have very clear memories of sitting on our family room floor listening to my dad’s fave classic rock station, and pounding out “Maybe I’m Amazed” on our coffee table before we got a piano and I learned how to play it for real. (For the record, I still pound it out on my desk when it shuffles on.) Therefore I was super excited when I heard about this contest. It was so fun to do.
I love this song so much … Paul wrote and recorded it for/about Linda for helping him get through the stress of the Beatles’ breakup. I didn’t write this in my contest entry page since McCartney is about to remarry, but I consider Paul & Linda to be one of the great love stories, and this song perfectly captures that.
