Catalog of the adult art studio

About the studio

This catalog presents the students of the informal art studio for adults at the Vincas Grybas Memorial Museum and the works they created during the 15-year life of the studio.
The Vincas Grybas Memorial Museum in Jurbarkas is a place that attracts visitors and artists. In 1999 an informal art studio for adults was organized there. The visitors to the studio – the "students" – loved it, and after fifteen years they have created something to be proud of and enjoy .
Adults attend fine art training in the museum every Saturday. Only when the tourist season is intense, in the summer and September, they do have the vacation.
During the 15-year history of the studio, adults were taught a wide array of art techniques and carried out a number of tasks and projects. Every year the studio arranges one or two new exhibitions. Generally  exhibitions are held in the Vincas Grybas Memorial Museum, but sometimes their works are displayed elsewhere. Collections of works have been displayed in the Jurbarkas Country Museum, in the Klaipėda Culture Communication Centre, in the Panevėžys Palace of Culture, in the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania, in Gelgaudiškis manor house, in Panemunė castle, and in "Vakarutė" Club (Eičiai, Tauragė district). Two exhibitions of creative works have been exhibited in collections abroad – Partinico (Sicily) in 2006, and Rheinfelden (Germany) in 2007.
The group that learns art in the museum consists of intensive, proactive, hardworking people who are not afraid of challenges. The project, which began as a way to “spend free time purposefully”, evolved into an educational workshop that introduces the complex skills required for fine art.
The students of the adult art studio use many art disciplines and techniques: pencil, coal, and ink drawing; watercolor casting, painting with oil on canvas and acrylic on wood panel; papier mache; classic and Tiffany stained glass; ceramics and pottery of various clays, including porcelain figurines; glass fusing and jewelry making; and painting on silk.
Students find the museum to be a place where they can reveal their individuality and boldly express their emotions. When they learn specific subjects they discover themselves anew, see the environment differently, and begin to develop a deeper approach to creativity. Students are always open to take on challenges, no matter how novel, complex, and time-consuming.
One by one, creative exhibition projects have been born: “Tiffany Lamps” (2006); "Silk Painting" (2007); "Stained Glass Miniatures" (2007); "French Modernists a la" (2008); "Angels" (2009); "Masks" (2009); "Gods, Muses, and Participants of Love" (2010);  "Tribute to Chopin" (2010); "Outdoor Paintings: The Historical Costume of Europe” (2011); "Porcelain Dolls" (2012); and "Painting Miniatures" (2013).
For the 15-year anniversary of the informal art studio the students have had a 5-month-long workshop to create their final works, where they could demonstrate the mastery they have achieved in different fields of art. Once this project is complete, the studio will begin a new stage of art studies.
