Quentin Tarantino - Time 100 Book

The goal of this problem was to create a book revolving around someone of our choosing in the TIME 100 list. I chose the director Quentin Tarantino because of his dynamic and memorable filmmaking style. The book that I created is encased in a briefcase that I constructed to pay homage to the Pulp Fiction briefcase that was so important to the film.
I wanted to present the book in a housing form that was representative of Tarantino's work. Since a briefcase is the main prop in many of his movies, it seemed fitting to make a custom briefcase that would hold the book.
The case is made out of leather upholstry, plywood sheets, felt, metal hinges, and clasps ordered from a music supply shop.
The book is bound in a japanese stab-stitching to pay homage to Tarantino's movie Kill Bill.
The main typeface that was used was Rockwell which was chosen after looking at numerous title screens for Tarantino's movies. The colors also were drawn from his movies: yellow from Kill Bill, red from Inglorious Basterds, and blue from Pulp Fiction. It also would've been a crime not to include some blood in the book.
The tilted type found throughout the book was used to create a unique sense of motion and tension throughout the book. Tarantino's movies can be very tense at times and I found this to be an effective way of portraying that in the book.
As a director, Tarantino favors certain shots over other. This spread features pop outs that show the use of his signature shots throughout his oeuvre.
