The game is conceptually built on the interaction between the physical and the digital. The videogame is accompanied by 6 plush objects with microchips and gyroscopes inside of them. These objects are the physical link between the child and Amico; they play a large role in gameplay. Our research showed that younger children generally enjoy learning the most when there is a physical dimension to it.
Each game targets a different social skill by means of digital and physical interaction. We designed a total of 6 games with 2 extra possible multiplayer games.
The main screen. Here the child will see their own physical objects represented in the game. Amico would say one of any number of scripted lines to get the child to choose what game to play and the child would be prompted to pick up the corresponding object in order to start and begin playing the game.
The characters in the game prompt children to take action and/or speak.
The sleep screen provides a less regulated type of digital discovery. A child could pick up one of the objects and find out about it through the animation playing on screen. Picking up two or three objects at once would show an interaction between them in animation.
We sampled songs from this album during our in-class presentation to help further define what actual gameplay would be like.
