BODY AT WORK – Rehearsing Cooperation
BODY AT WORK - Rehearsing Cooperation is a research project about cooperation contemporary forms of work and production.

1-2-3 Work! Is a D.I.Y. working apron. It was inspired by the 1-2-3 Dress, a D.I.Y. dress designed and produced by the cooperative textile factory De Ploeg in the Netherlands during the 1960s and 1970s.
The 1-2-3 Work! aprons have been fully produced by cooperatives. The fabrics were manufactured by worker-run factory Acetatos Argentinos and the tailoring and silkscreen was done by La Alameda cooperative; both cooperatives are located in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The aprons come in different colors inspired by original workers’ clothes (beige, grey, blue, black, and white) and are available in different types of fabrics (more thick, rough, or silky) appropriated for different kinds of work. The two stones silkscreened onto the pockets are details from newspaper images of a collapsed garment factory building in Bangladesh, 2013.
1-2-3 Work! Is part of the project BODY AT WORK — Rehearsing Cooperation that looks back at the cooperative history in the Netherlands and the legacy of the work of socially engaged Dutch architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld, drawing a critical parallel with contemporary modes of production and work.
A DIY working outfit in three steps:
- Step 1: Cut the two lines indicated with the scissors symbol, then you should have three pieces (two pockets and the apron).
- Step 2: Double fold all the cut out edges and sew to make the hems.
- Step 3: Now sew the pockets in a place of your choice, and the strips: one for the neck and two on the sides.
Creation of booklet-poster for the instructions for use
of the diy outfit and the explanation of the project.
Edition in two versions: English and Dutch.
