Peter Barker's profile

To Give and not to Count the Cost

'Riverview has been tested by one of the severest
of tests – war – and not found wanting'. So rejoiced the
editor of 'Our Alma Mater' at Christmas 1918.

310 of a possible 650 Old Ignatians enlisted for
the Great War and, by 1919, 60 of them were dead.
T S Elliott describes such slaughter in 'The Waste Land',
'So many, I had not thought death had undone so many'.

'To Give and not to Count the Cost' was written to
ensure these young men are never forgotten.
