Designer: Lorenzo Caia
Location: Florence, Italy
Object: Hatstand
Project Year: 2011-2012
After a therow research and analysis of hatstand from both Cear and other companies, I decided to design a hatstand, starting from concept of a plant.

The first few questions that I have asked myself are:
What is hatstand? How does it work? What is its function?

The hatstand allows people to hand their coast or hats when entering a household. It is a functional, static, passive and servile object.

Most importantly, it is an invisible object of the house, so I want to make sure that it becomes one of the first objects that someone looks at when they enter the household.
I want to emphasize its presence through surprise, originality and the particularity of a singular object.
For instance, I decided to search for original things which surprised me in curious way, so I decided that my main concept was going to be common strange plants (Inspiration botanic). Why strange plants? Because they create the element of surprise and curiosity in someone. Also because humans have not totally accepted them in their world and therefore they represent something fascinating, something of owe.
The plant that I have chosen is: Idnara African.

The materials that I used are the same materials used by the companies I have used in my researhc, such as coloured copper iron.
Hatstands for families made in copper colored iron.
Hatstands are the result of a research on collocation of omnipresent objects in the house.
These objects lack of any type of originality, freedom, distinction, style and personality in comparison to the collective furniture of the household.
The form created was developed from the characteristics of the research’s concept:
.Strange plants.
However the linearity, the simplicity and the quality of the hatstand come from the concept’s development.
The main measures are:
L: 60 x W: 40 x H 180-120 cm.
