Pop Goes The Algorithm

The modern music industry is notoriously overpopulated and difficult to break into. With hundreds of thousands of artists vying for success, record labels need to be fairly certain the choices they make will result in a commercial hit. This job has traditionally fallen to record label scouts, who discover, analyse and predict the success of new music.
In recent years, however, algorithms have been developed which are able to do exactly the same thing. This visualisation explores how this algorithm predicts the top 250 most successful pop songs would fare in the current music market.
