"Celebration of the flag: In the liberators' footsteps" (27th October 2012) was the main event of a series of anniversary events organised by the Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace, in order to celebrate 100 years from the liberation of Macedonia. It was an honorary march that took place in Thessaloniki's centre and was based upon historical references and resources, which stated the way the liberators, back in 1912, entered the city as triumphant liberators.
The event incluced a march of all the Greek Armed Forces and of Macedonian warriors both pedestrians and equestrians, bands, Evzonoi, men from the guard of the President of Greece, the first Greek flag that was raised in 1912 in the White Tower, cannon fires, a gulf full of saiboats and a battleship, as well as the biggest Greek flag worldwide that was raised in Thessaloniki's port. The event was attended and watched by the Minister of Macedonia and Thrace, the Minister of National Defense and the President of Greece, but also was free of charge to the city's citizens as it was all planned and executed thanks to donations and sponsorships.
In the photos and video that follow, one can realise the size and meaning of this project.The team, consisted mainly of my supervisors and me, had the overall command of the event, from the moment an idea it was conceived and planned to the final detail and the accomplishment of the event.
