In Halle, after the unification of East Germany with West Germany, the city’s chemical factories were closed and a lot of people moved away in search of jobs.
As a matter of fact, the ex-GDR industries had too old technologies and they couldn’t compete with West Germany’s richness. After this emigration a lot of old buildings were left empty. But today there is a new ambition in some people: to buy these buildings for low prices and to restore and reuse them for different purposes. These people have very good energy and a good vision for the future of the city. If they didn’t take care of these buildings they would be demolished together with a part of history.
