Images 35
Association of Illustrators, Best of British Illustration 2012
For Images 35, I designed the book and the awards ceremony graphics based on a theme of old fireworks packaging, simulating the colour and impact of inspirational illustration.
I deliberately copied the look and feel of the misregistration and bleed of colours on the old card stock, but retained a punchy feel that would stand out on a book shelf.
The book contains some of the best illustration created in the last year in Britain, from well known figures in the industry to newcomers. It shows the award winners followed by the other pieces selected for the competition.
I try to let the book be a showcase for their illustrations, and as there are so many different styles and techniques used throughout, I keep the design of the pages clear and structured, with a hint of the cover design running through as section dividers.
The award ceremony and exhibition also follow the book design: from the banners, wall lettering and trophies, down to the rubber stamps used to mark the illustrations on the walls as the winners are announced.
