On 5/18/24, we visited a friend's apartment in a building close to ours -- on the water by Diamond Head in Honolulu, Hawaii. Here are pics of a very rare event -- five monk seals on one local beach at the same time. The seals are, left to right, "Mahina", "Wawa", "Right Spot", "Kaiwi", and Kaiwi's pup, “Pa’aki”. Right Spot is female and thought to be 28 years old. Wawa, a younger male, is very protective of Right Spot. No one is allowed on any beach occupied by monk seals. In the seventh photo, you can see a security guard who protects the seals. In the two photos before the last, Kaiwi is nursing Pa’aki.
