Wooden Toy Car
Research
Ideation
These are sketches of the ideas for my car. My idea for this car was to either be a classic vehicle (sport or muscle) with a straight features and very few curves. During my ideation process I decided that my car should be a BMW E30. IN the final two sketches it shows the refinement stage of my toy car. the first image is a hero shot of the final product with smaller front and side orthographics, and in the second image it shows my communication of the details of the design of my car.
Development
For the cardboard prototype I drew a outline of an E30 and cut it out. I then took that piece and traced over it once again and cut that piece out. I then cut out multiple circles for the wheel to represent the width for when i start working with wood.To hold the wheels together I used a very thin sticks. For the dimensions of the car, I used Maximum size for the cardboard prototype maximum length, maximum width, maximum height. To put everything together I used bostik Superglue.
Manufacture
To complete the final product, I made use of the workshop tools. I used a drill bit to make holes in the car, a saw to make straight cuts of the car and sanding to make the car smooth and flatten certain areas on the car. For the lights and wheel alignment. I used a dowel and made tiny cuts of it to make them fit for the lights.
Decal Design
For the decal design I used the decals that you would find on a BMW E30. The decals include The BMW logo, The 3.2.5 i emblem found at the back of most Bmw 3 series, I used racing stripes that belong to the BMW brand, and I also used Gauteng number plates.
Outcome
The final design shows a wooden BMW E30. The car consists of headlights, tailights, a grille, front and back numberplates, front and rear bumber, and a spoiler
Reflection
I enjoyed doing this project. This project is by far my favorite project of the year. I had a lot of fun and felt like a mad scientist creating something insane.
