Elas: expressões de matemáticas brasileiras
In 2017, I was invited by Professor Thaís Jordão (ICMC / USP São Carlos) to design an exhibition dedicated to Brazilian women researchers and mathematicians. The main goal of the exhibition is to showcase the presence of women in the exact sciences and to promote equal opportunities and treatment for women in science.
Each piece features the names of all Brazilian mathematicians found on the Lattes platform engraved on its background. The search for professionals working in the field of mathematics, and who have updated their curriculum in the last two years, generated 5,920 names, of which 500 are featured in the pieces.
As the main graphic concept, I used the Brazilian flag and its colors, deconstructed using angles and geometry that form a perfect grid, only possible through mathematics. Each piece carries something related to the personality of the professional in question. I also use mathematical formulas created by the researchers as a graphic element, which, according to them, symbolize the main works of their careers up to that moment.
The exhibition was inaugurated at the USP São Carlos campus on March 8, 2017, and since then it has been touring common and technical schools, universities, colleges, and educational centers throughout the country.

One of the most symbolic pieces of the exhibition. Mathematician Carolina Araujo teaches at IMPA (Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics) while holding her baby. At that moment, Carolina was the only woman working as a professor and researcher at IMPA, which is widely recognized as the best and largest mathematics institute in Brazil and one of the best in the world. The graphic piece is, in itself, a shout for equality in science.
Due to an agreement, only a few pieces can be exhibited.
The exhibition made headlines in various media outlets across the country.
