Exploring Romania.. this time an UNESCO site: "Trovantii" from Ulmet.
Situated in Buzau country geo-park these strange looking rocks (some of them with names of animals and objects) are made of hardened sandstone formed 14 millions of years ago from the prehistoric fine sand, having strange shapes, some of them almost defining gravity.
Locals are calling them "living rocks" or "Earth children" and are surrounded by local legends.
Enjoy my exploration of this unique place.
After entering the reservation and climbing a wooden stair, you reach the top of the hill and encounter the main "trovant", such an imposing and strange rock
The path follows the ridge. I took the left part. More similar looking rocks. Amazing. This was a fine sand on a beach 14 million years ago
What a coincidence! Another photographer in site! A good opportunity to compose a frame to show the size of the rocks and a beautiful woman :)
Same formation from a different angle. A nice natural window formed 14 millions years ago
Circling around the rock formation we see another window on the left, not visible in the previous photo. Some clouds are changing the colors a bit. From this angle it looks more or less like some rocks/sand found on the beach
The "trovant" from the first picture. Stairs are in the forest behind
A dedication to this impressive "trovant". Huge bulbs or rock suspended in air. Amazing nature!
A last look at the main formation, time to explore the rest of the site
The path to the right follows the ridge uphill towards deep forest. Strange looking "trovant" or the right, like a column head of an ancient temple. Quite round and smooth surface. Following the path, further away is the next imposing "trovant"
And here it is: a dramatic gigantic three headed "mushroom" bend under the top weight. The Sun makes the scene vivid and dramatic, one of may favorite picture in the set
Snail-like "trovanti". The path continues in the forest with more "trovants", some with names like: The Whale, The Dolphin, The Column. The shoots in the forest an not so spectacular as the ones shown so far. Back to entrance...
One my way back, the last view of the main area, with the column head on the left, in the center the formation from the first pictures. Descend on the left wooden stairs
