This project required me to design a personal totem that is indicative of the relationships I experience between people and place, my history and me within a system of relationships.

RATIONALE
The concept for my totem design was based on my ambitions to travel the world. At the base of the totem, the images represent where I come from and my heritage. I used an image of table mountain because I was born and raised in Cape Town and I used an image of the crescent moon and star because I was raised Muslim. I added the Inverary Castle and Scotspine trees because my grandfather was Scottish. As you move further up on the totem, the images represent the places I would like to explore and the things I would like to see such as whale watching in Alaska, temples in Kyoto, Japan and cherry blossom trees.
