Project 01 - 7 Creative Strategies
This project challenged students to create 7 professional images of a household object that demonstrate the 7 creative strategies. This includes combination, juxtaposition, isolation, metaphor/simile, change of context/environment, physical/shape similarity, and material change/swap/focus. I chose a comb as my object of choice for this assignment.
Combination
My image seamlessly combines the ballerina skirt with a comb in order to demonstrate the combination of two items that make some sense together.
Juxtaposition
This image is a good example of juxtaposition because it combines two unrelated elements. A comb would typically be used for hair, but it is ironic in this situation because it is being used to comb something unexpected: wires.
Isolation
This composition is a comb/plant in a barren field. There are no other plants or distracting elements, and so the plant is isolated and all attention is drawn to it.
Metaphor
This composition is a girl with combs as wings and short hair. I view having short hair as very freeing, as it saves you from yanking and pulling the hair. The comb wings are a metaphor for freedom from fighting the hair to detangle it.
Change of Environment
I designed the comb in an ocean setting which is unusual for it, thus changing its environment into something new.
Physical Similarities
I think a comb looks a lot like a ladder, and so I replaced a ladder with a comb to showcase that physical similarity.
Material Change
In this piece I made a comb made out of strawberry instead of wood or plastic. By changing the combs material, I accurately demonstrated this creative strategy.
