Final
Rationale
This is my chosen final design for my Totem/ heraldic emblem. It tells a tale of my life and the environment i grew up in.
The fish at the bottom symbolizes my star sign “Pisces”, and represents the start of my life. The flowers on the side of the fish are lavender flowers and they represent the neighborhood I was born and raised in, “Lavender Hill”. The reason why the flowers are wavy are to express the "hill" in the name “Lavender Hill. The guns, hand sign, tomb stone, robber mask and the women sitting on the guns represents the state of the neighborhood in which I grew up in. It's filled with gang violence and drug abuse and many people die because of it. The number “28” relates to the gang that rules over my neighborhood which are a notorious gang based all over Cape Town. The girls placed in the corner of the hand and gun because they are on every corner of the roads.
Around all the negative things are what pushed me away from the negatives and kept me alive to this day. My faith which is represented by the masked man on top which is Islam. He also represents the anti gang and drugs organization “PAGAT” who are a notorious Muslim organization that protects the community from gang violence and drug abuse. The skateboards represents the hobby I did during my childhood days. Skateboarding took up majority of my time next to school and religious work. It also kept me alive while a couple of people I knew and grew up with died due to gangsterism.

Hence the shield, Faith and skateboarding shielded me from all the negativity happening in my area and pushed me to achieve amazing things.
