Project Title: Postcard Design
Type of Project: Class Project
Course: ART205 Graphic Design 1
Instructor: Dr. Siriporn Peters
Year: Spring 2024
Length of the Project: 2 Weeks
Digital Tools: Adobe Photoshop and InDesign

Design Concept: For this project, students were asked to take their own pictures of locations on MSU’s campus, then to make them into professionally designed postcards to represent the university. After taking the pictures, students were required to digitally enhance each image via Adobe Photoshop, including visual corrections as well as sky-replacements for each image. Then, students were required to arrange an MSU logo to sit in in a corner of each image according to the available space provided. Finally, students arranged each image next to their postcard backs in Adobe InDesign, all of which included information on the project, a spot to write, and a spot for a postcard.
Project Title: Graphic Design with Kentucky Folk Art Center
Type of Project: Class Project
Course: ART205 Graphic Design 1
Instructor: Dr. Siriporn Peters
Year: Spring 2024
Length of the Project: 5 Weeks
Digital Tools: Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator

Design Concept: For this project, students were asked to visit the Kentucky Folk Art Center in Morehead, Ky, to find one of the center’s artists to base designs for production off of. Students took pictures, did research, and decided on one artist per student to make fitting works. Students worked on Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop to either trace their artist’s pieces or to create whole new designs based on the art with the idea that each work would be translated into t-shirts, keychains, magnets, postcards, coffee mugs, and so on. Once designs were presented as mockups to client Tammy Stone at the KFAC and approved, students took their work to the Maker Space at MSU’s library to produce the works physically. Finally, the completed works were taken to the KFAC and put on display by students, where they curated a fitting way for visitors of the center to view the pieces.
Project Title: Logo Design
Type of Project: Class Project
Course: ART205 Graphic Design 1
Instructor: Dr. Siriporn Peters
Year: Spring 2024
Length of the Project: 2 Weeks
Digital Tools: Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator

Design Concept: For this project, students were asked to first sketch out multiple ideas for logos regarding their names. Then, students were asked to refine their sketches through Adobe Illustrator with a focus in typography. When done, students then formatted the logo into multiple prototypes for a keychain, coffee mug, t-shirt, and notebook to be produced in the Maker Space at MSU’s library. Finally, the prototypes were translated into physical pieces in the Maker Space and put on display in the library when finalized.
