These are images I captured in my first attempt at sports photography in February this year. It was well outside my comfort zone - I had never done anything like it before, and had never seen a game of rugby. The weather conditions were windy and threatened rain for most of the game. The light levels weren't great.

I had no clue what was going on, often looking for the ball in the wrong direction, never sure what was going to happen next. I took thousands of images, many of which were awful. But some came out OK to my great surprise.

Before my next match, I read up on the rules and play of the game, and fared a lot better.
