"Powroty" – social campaign as a master diploma

Master's degree in Graphic Design Wrocław Academy of Fine Arts

"Powroty" ("Returns") consists of three parts: a graphic design section, an printmaking section, and an additional animated film section. The defense, along with the exhibition, took place on June 19, 2023, at the Museum of Natural History, Wrocław University, as a result of our collaboration.

"Returns" is an informational campaign that sheds light on the topic of bird migrations and the research conducted in this field.

By portraying the individual stories of seven birds, the campaign familiarizes people with the phenomenon of migration. The selected bird characters are very diverse, representing the migrations of their species while also showcasing uniqueness in their stories. The main theme revolves around postage stamps and postcards, associated with the tradition of sending cards from travels. From infographic posters with illustrated maps, one can decipher the wintering location of each individual, learn about the challenges encountered on the route, migration duration, and sometimes its speed.

Each birds' name was given by the organization that founded the transmitter. I recommend visiting the websites located in the bottom right corner, as some of the characters can still be tracked to this day.

Below is the main part of the campaign - a series of posters featuring birds and their migration routes in a 100x70cm format.

As part of the project, I included various research by contacting and collaborating with organizations that fit birds with transmitters and rings, including:

ODRA Ringing Group (expeditions of Wrocław swans and assistance in their ringing inspired me to create the entire project)
Foundation "Ptasie Horyzonty" (poster featuring Eurasian oystercatchers Sasha and Zosia)
Michał Szumski's "Mewia Przystań" in Ustka (poster "Seagulls from Seagull Haven")
Reed Warblers from the Barycz Valley - a group of researchers from the University of Wrocław (I provided the migration route of Marek the Reed Warbler along with information that was not previously publicly available)

An important element of the campaign is the foldable informational leaflets in A4 format. They highlight actions that each of us can take, to get involved in helping birds and research on their migrations.

The postcards design refers to the main theme: post, poststamps and mail.
