Research and Sketches

For the Valentine Project, I started researching which iconic figures I could choose that have a relationship dynamic. I chose Bonnie and Clyde because they because notorious during The Great Depression and were idolized for their dedication to stay together through prison breaks, robberies, and murder. Til death do us part, as they say, right?

I became more inspired after watching the 1967 movie adaptation Bonnie and Clyde because of the typography, set design, vintage vehicles, and costuming in the film. I started off by sketching out ideas I had for a Valentine's box. I wanted to include 4 elements inside of the box: a card, bullets, chocolate coins, and a chocolate gun. I started writing down ideas for copy as well for the box itself and the card.

Process

I had never worked with Adobe 3D Substance Stager before, so I had a learning curve to face. I started by downloading all the assets I would need on Adobe Stock. I downloaded many .obj files including a heart box, golden coins, small bullets, paper, a pistol, and a small card. I searched for photos of Bonnie and Clyde on the internet and included Clyde's mugshot and a photo of them together. I also downloaded a chocolate material to change the texture of the pistol and a bullet hole texture that I edited to wrap around the box.

The font I chose for the copy is called "Stadium 1946". I feel that this font fits the overall aesthetic of the Bonnie and Clyde era. I included this font on the card and on the sections inside the box. I had a lot of fun coming up with naughty Valentine's-related copy for the assets. The texture of the heart box is a dark red metal and I like how the rendering shows the reflection on the table underneath. The inside of the box is a speckled red paint that resembled glitter which I thought was appropriate for Valentine's Day.
