CONTEXT: In the world of AR, avatars often lack authenticity, portraying flawless features that fail to resemble the diversity of real human faces. Imperfect features like asymmetry and freckles are integral to women’s individuality, yet neglected in traditional avatar design.
IDEA: Dove closed the gap between AR and reality by embracing imperfections. The development of our Avatars involved data collection, machine learning, and character design. By collaborating with leading AR studios we launched an online platform that allowed users to take control of their image back and define their features by scanning and detailing their characteristics to make their avatars authentic and closer to reality. Our avatars fostered stronger connections between women and their virtual representations. Encouraging self image acceptance by pushing against the homogenization of beauty standards and inviting platforms to develop a new level of real personalization.
