Exploring 3-Dimensional Design

Second year project
Summary of Brief: Turning 2-dimensional design into 3-dimensional packaging to change a negative perception people have towards certain foods into a positive one. Using research gathered from questionnaires posed to the public alongside factual evidence one needs to use creative problem-solving to shift the narrative. Design solutions, practicality and aesthetics are, too, used to aid in this shift using unique product names, eye-catching imagery, colour and striking packaging.
Rationale:
My culture and heritage play a huge role in the inspiration and creation of this product. As a traditional Portuguese, Blood sausage is not a shy topic. However, many have a negative perception of this food because of the way it is boiled and its strong blackish colour when fried. I noticed that many do not like the sausage because of its appearance, however, would consider it if it was marketed as a snack accompanied by a sauce. Therefore, Pick-a-Porker is a salami-like snack accompanied by either, peri-peri, cream cheese or garlic mayo dip that enables one to pick up a snack and go on their way quickly and efficiently. The catchy, clever, pun slogan, “Bloody good sausage” alongside a uniquely, hand-drawn illustration creates a wholesome, friendly and welcoming compartmental package that is functional, stackable and visually aesthetic.
