Daisy Jones and The Six Dust Jacket

This redesign aimed to provide a different style to what the book cover, specifically a dust jacket, could look like that captures the essence of designs inspired by 70s type, texture, and imagery. The current book cover of Daisy Jones and The Six includes imagery and design elements that do not capture the message or reflect the overall mood of the book. Beginning with the mood board full of images and type that represented how the book made me feel, combined with some imagery from the television adaptation, I moved away from the current edition towards a more stylized cover.

I wanted to work with a detailed cover title for Daisy Jones, while also incorporating a graphic on the back that would represent Daisy without showing a face. Inspired by the way some of the images show the TV actress holding her cigarette and by the hand graphics in some of the posters, I modeled with my own hand and created a sketch used for the final Illustrator graphic.

While the cover title was almost finalized, I realized that texture was missing from making it look like the grainy text of the mood board. Selecting the text, I expanded the words so I could individually move letters and apply a textured stroke to them. I settled on using the Charcoal Pencil to create the effect I desired, which I then used for the record, cigarette, and hand graphics. Along with the title and back designs, an about the author, author image, synopsis, pull quote, ISBN, publishing information, publisher logo, "For Educational Purposes", and spine title with the author were all included.
