RespiraMente | Personal Project

RespiraMente
A personal project, or rather an emotional journey born after months of research and experimentation.
RespiraMente is a visualization exercise to embrace ourselves as the sea does with stormy waves.
The main theme stems from personal discomfort consisting of paranoia, stress, and self-destructive thoughts
reflecting emotions experienced over the past 12 months.
The thoughts do not take root but flow freely thanks to various visualization and breathing techniques.
During the design process, stages of paranoia took analogical form on paper with drawings and calligraphic exercises. These techniques, combined with 2D and 3D elements, become overwhelming thanks to the music and custom-made sound design.
The 200 BPM whisk the viewer into a tunnel that transports us into an ever-changing emotional whirlpool.
The pounding rhythm of overlapping and intertwining thoughts alternates with moments of calm induced by breathing exercises.
Respiramente is a contamination of art therapy, motion, and non-verbal language to lead us through the waves of our emotions as they transform into something else.

RespiraMente is an exercise in pure experimentation, a blend of techniques (analog, calligraphic, and digital) that reflects the mix of emotions being conveyed. The analog approach, made of sketches, doodles, texts, and colors, was used to depict the "visualization" technique we use to calm ourselves, but also to portray a method through which I let anxiety, confusion flow. I take the first sheet in front of me and start drawing, just as I did in this project. Additionally, the 2D animation intertwines with 3D animation techniques that I used to immerse us even further into the confusing stages of the mind.

All of this finds its "blank canvas" in distorted backgrounds created through an experimentation of mixing music, voices, and effects carried out using the software "Resolume," like a true visual performance but encapsulated in a video.

The audio was recorded in a custom live recording session. The drums, the basses overwhelm and intertwine at 200 bpm, merging with my voice. Being an autobiographical narrative, I wanted the viewer to immerse themselves in the sensations and thoughts that swirl in this confused and paranoid state. "My thoughts intertwine, my thoughts intertwine," "the waves wash over me" are all phases of this journey that emerge through a liberating scream and are calmed by that "breathe" that disarms the fluid emotional stage and, like the tide, passes and becomes something else.
