Infographic Project
The objective of this project was to create an informative infographic detailing a five step process without the use of text (apart from the title). This requires quality and clarity of illustration to communicate well with the viewer in the absence of written words.
I sketched multiple concepts for each “step” of the process. I ended up combining some of the initial sketches to create the final illustrations. I started off with a basic rectangular layout, and then moved to incorporate a pie crust shape as the placeholder for each step. For the title, I wanted to achieve something that felt handwritten and timeless. I ultimately decided to pair a rounded script typeface with a classic serif typeface.
Although my original concept involved using green for the background color, I decided to change the background to a deep shade of red with a hint of brown. This warmer and more monochromatic palette suits my vision for the infographic better than the green did. The pie recipe that I chose to illustrate is my great-grandmother's. When I think of my great-grandmother, I think of the color red. She lived on a farm with a red barn, had a red tin roof on her house, and had a red bird house outside the front window. The red background is a subtle nod to her and helps the piece feel "older".

This (almost) monochromatic color palette and semi-realistic illustration style is very characteristic of early-mid 1900s advertising. My grandmother used to collect vintage metal tins that had numerous illustrations on them as a form of product advertising. Because of that, I decided to mock up my project on a metal tin. The final product would be quite at home amidst my grandmother’s tin collection, especially since it features a staple family recipe from her mother-in-law!
