Cancer Research Evolution: Bilingual Digital Transformation
This project, "Cancer Research Transformation: From Document to Digital Experience," was completed as the final project of Typography Design 3 class by Carley Hodgkinson.
Challenge
The primary challenge of this project was to redesign the document Amplifying Impact: Leveraging Cancer
Research to Enhance the Health of Canadians
while adhering to accessible guidelines and DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) principles. It required careful consideration of layout, typography, and imagery to ensure that the content is inclusive and accessible to a diverse audience. Additionally, maintaining the integrity of the original content while transforming it into a more engaging and visually appealing format was another significant challenge. Furthermore, the task involved balancing English and French bilingual text throughout the document, adding an extra layer of complexity to the design process.
Immersion
To create an immersive reading experience, the design focused on utilizing fonts and imagery effectively. Fonts like ITC Legacy Sans and Odile were chosen for their elegance and readability, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the document. The imagery used in the design blends seamlessly with the background, representing individuals from diverse backgrounds and fostering a sense of inclusivity. Soft icons were strategically placed to highlight key bullet points and guide the reader through the content.
Brand Expression
The choice of soft icons and diverse imagery served as a means of brand expression, reinforcing the values of inclusivity and diversity. Soft icons were used to visually emphasize key points, adding a touch of creativity and visual interest to the content. The diverse imagery used throughout the document reflected the multicultural audience it aimed to engage with, fostering a sense of connection and representation.
Before/After
Impact
The impact of the redesign was evident in the clarity and accessibility of the content. By condensing statistics and transforming them into visually appealing data visualizations, complex information was presented in a more digestible format. This not only enhanced the reader's understanding but also increased engagement with the document. Overall, the redesign aimed to create a lasting impact by delivering information effectively and inclusively to a diverse audience.
