The Blue Dress references women’s fashion in the 1950s; time during which America became the locus of culture for many societies. The 1950s is commonly misconstrued as being a utopic family-centred era built around idealized notions of the home and women. It is perhaps lesser known that under the white picket fence veneer, there was a generation of housewives who became addicted to anti-depressants, barbiturates and other psychotropic drugs.
