About the Project
For this project, I had to create a proposal and mobile app prototype for a Grocery, Meals, or Recipe App to be funded by a Fortune 500 grocery retailer. I utilized the Persona as a UX/UI Research Method to help guide my design decisions and brand style.
Objectives
- Use "offline", in-person group discussion as a brainstorming method.
- Create a Persona as a UX/UI design strategy.
- Use Figma to create a presentation (16:9 slide format).
- Use Figma for mobile app design, use basic prototyping when needed.
- Look at mobile app designs in a similar vertical or market space.
Create a competitor analysis.
- Think and create. Think "offline." Create "online."

Research
While creating this app, I used previous knowledge from other projects I have created in Figma, especially when utilizing interactions within the different pages. Photography wasn't a big part of this app, so I incorporated elements of 2D Design and Illustration in the icons and color scheme I used.
I didn't have to do much research outside of what I already knew for the prototyping, but I did do quite a bit of research on the area I was creating the app for. Since it caters to those who live in New York, at a slightly higher tax bracket, I made the color scheme and overall look of the app based on the colors and trees you would see if you were walking or taking the subway in New York.
When creating my app, I used my previous experience in Figma to help guide me. While fancy interactions and transitions may look cool, they aren't always necessary, and that's something that helped me make Locality look a bit more sleek and professional, while still staying friendly. I have also had meal kits delivered before, and I designed the app around what I think could be better in terms of delivery times and what you get. I have also lived with people who are very busy, and don't always have time to go grocery shopping but still love to cook, so I wanted this to translate into that issue too.
