Project Description
"Taste of Heritage" is an interactive pop-up exhibit for youths and young families to discover and learn about the rich cultural context, histories and meanings behind various traditional foods served during festive occasions. It features interactive elements throughout for visitors to have a hands on and engaging learning experience.
Main Problem: Many individuals enjoyment of different traditional foods often stops at the surface level of taste as they lack cultural understanding and histories behind those foods. Without seeking to understand the deeper cultural values and meanings embedded in traditional foods, these dishes risk being viewed and enjoyed in a superficial way.
As of now, there are not many engaging ways where people can learn about festive foods and without these opportunities for them to learn, knowledge about these foods may be overlooked and fade away.
Solution: "Taste of Heritage" is an interactive pop-up exhibit for youths and young families ages 16 to 44 to discover and learn about the rich cultural context, histories and meanings behind various traditional foods served during festive occasions specifically Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and Deepavali. The exhibit will have 4 main stations, each focusing on different aspects of festive foods.
Throughout the exhibit and after every interaction, the ultimate goal is to ensure that each visitor has a fun and memorable experience where they can foster a deeper appreciation and understanding for festive foods.
Project Objectives: The aim of the exhibit is to cultivate a sense of curiosity on how food plays an important role in celebrations and to also educate people about the cultural significance of festive foods. This is also in hopes of sparking people’s curiosity for exploring and learning about other culinary traditions of different cultures in Singapore.
