Some years ago I was in a camping and there was a young girl without the right arm. I was fascinated by her ability to do everything using only the left. She was like "hypnotic" to me.
Anyway this made me think that we really discover the skills of our body only when forced.
Disegni Sinistri means literally "left-handed drawings", but the word "sinistro" has a double meaning: it means "left/ on the left side" but also "sinister/ creepy".
The Latin word was used in augury in the sense of "unlucky" (omens seen on the left hand were regarded as portending misfortune). Previous generation (at least in the italian education system) was forced to use the right hand because the left one was considered "the hand of the devil".
So I've decided to realise a series of drawings using my left hand.
Following the double meaning, I drew a sequence of circus perfomers with some...
creepy characteristics.
